异/Ethereal (Part 1)

The performance is finally over! The final stretch to the performance was really stressful and tiring but I know it’s worth it when I am still so high right now. Thanks to all friends who came down to support. So glad that many enjoyed the performance.

Thanks to all my dancers too. I was shocked to realise that I have 50 plus NUS Chinese Dance dancers in this production when I was compiling the cast list one night. Here is the full cast list; seventy odd dancers strong:

My babies... Haha...

Next my choreographers (from left, clockwise):

  1. Xiaoyun: Did two of her dance; one of which required me to act cute. The way the item evolved was a journey for me: From feeling lost initially till knowing the way to perform it. Incidentally, she is also the only alumni of NUS Chinese Dance among the choreographers. Alumni like her are like rare gems: choreography, backstage work, taking care of the many details of the performance… 我百分百的“赠奶妈”。

  2. Qing Jing: Did a fan dance under her and she was my partner in “Kang Ding Love Song”. She was the one who made my nickname “大头”official in NUS Chinese Dance; funny~. Dancing with an instrument is kinda new for me. I could so feel my heart thump during the portion when I am suppose to throw and catch the fan.

  3. Michael: One dance under him with two partners for two different nights. One that I had experience with in last year’s Dance Reflections; one without any. It was this choreography that made me amazed by how some female senior dancers are so daring. My partner would say “敢敢让我跌!”when we were experimenting with some moves. Wow

  4. Fen: Hip-hop choreographer does a hip-hop-Tibetan dance to Zhang Hui Mei’s song. This finale item is really interesting with the fusion element and costumes and all. And as that pop song is something I was already familiar with, getting into the mood is relatively easier. Yixin says that his dance movements are very fluid; something that I can work towards to. Haha

  5. Meiyan: A very effective instructor and even though she choreographed only one item, her presence can be felt. It had a settling/cooling-down effect for me. Somehow I believe that there can be no problems that cannot be solved by this 姐姐. Her EQ skills are so polished that if I may quote someone, “我非常敬佩美艳。就算他骂人,我也爽”.

I owe a lot to them for their assistance in organizing the performance. They are such a commited group to people; with the simple passion for dance and do what they can to perfect a performance.
