Spider-Man 3

(Only when I was creating the above artwork from those found in the official Spider-Man 3 site do I notice the difference in the spider logo. Cool~)

And so I digress… Watched it in Viviocity at midnight 12.55am and I must admit that I was surprised to see a the theater being filled despite the late screening. Didn’t insist on watching the 4K Digital version as I would have usually as I still have not replaced my lost spectacles. :S Other than the less-than-perfect visual quality, the air conditioning was down throughout the screening and the air was stale. I couldn’t help but kept fidgeting to keep my sweating to the minimum. Fortunately, the manager offered complementary tickets when I approached her after the show. Else, I’m sure Golden Village will get a email from a guy who has no work to do till the coming Monday…

Back to the movie. This show definitely has the weight of a blockbuster, seeing the number of screens playing Spider-Man 3 per day. So how did it fare?

Not a bad movie, but it’s not really fantastic. Generally, I thought the first two installations of Spider-Man were better.

Its plot seemed forced at many moments of the movie; certain events were inserted “unnaturally” into the movie so that it allows for some certain future events to occur. One could also see how the screenwriter/director struggled to find means to portray the change in Peter Parker as his dependence on Venom grew; and later during “inner battle” with Venom. I just thought it could have been done in a better fashion.

But the battle scenes are one of the most well choreographed ones, especially the finale scene involving four heroes and a maiden. I’m very impressed with whoever that came out with the whole storyboard. If fighting on land is complicated enough, look at how fighting can be and should be done in three dimensional space.

So don’t go in and expect too much. (Sadly,) Just enjoy the beauty of action-packed computer generated graphics.
