Backpost: Finals for Semester 4

Ah… High time to re-hash what went on during the hiatus period before I forget everything about it.

21 Apr: GEK1018, Economic Issues in the Developing World

It was a generally easy paper because:

  1. I S/U-ed the module;
  2. It’s an open-book examination;
  3. Answers may be lifted out from the comprehensive noted provided by a above-average lecturer.

and therefore I didn’t prepare much for this paper except for filing the notes properly and ensuring that I have all lecture slides printed.

It’s the first time I get to appreciate the convenience of staying in hostel. No more taking transportation in the morning rush hours! No more painful wait for buses-that-never-come!

24 Apr: MLE1101, Introductory Materials Science and Engineering

Was quite angry when I came out from the paper because some questions asked are just too detailed! Actually everything would be alright if the lecturers had been forthcoming on what exactly they want to test us on. Well, they did ask us to use our common sense and think if they’d test us on the itty gritty details. Apparently the answer was Yes. :S

25 Apr: BN1901, Principles of Bioengineering

If this paper has a separate blog post of its own, it would definitely be “Revenge of Stupid Exams Questions“; because the only way to outdo the stupidity of setting stupid exams questions is to set the exact questions as exams questions! ARGH!!!

I actually felt rather stupid when I was preparing the help sheet for this paper. It’s like succumbing to the exams system and it was frus-tra-ting. But well, at least I got to secure at least 25% of the paper by just copying the answers from my help sheet into the answer booklet. Sigh~ I wonder if I am suppose to cheer.

Key question is whether the examiner would pull the same stunt for the paper of next semester. I wonder…

27 Apr: LSM2103, Cell Biology

This is one of the most time and memory space consuming module for the semester. Someone was joking that the examinations for Bioengineers this semester starts and ends with this paper.

Whilst studying, I compiled a list of acronyms used throughout the module and they can actually fill a A4 piece of paper. Too bad it’s just too time consuming to type them all out…

30 Apr: MA3501, Mathematical Methods in Engineering

Last paper! By this time I was already fantasizing of the finish line and it was really difficult to concentrate. What’s more I am faced with one of my worst Math topic: Partial Differential Differentiation. It was a struggle to understand what’s going on in all the tutorials that I have missed. Luckily Yuenling was always a phone call away to provide help.

Afterthoughts

This semester is definitely better than the last. I had more time to prepare for the paper and I could feel the confidence coming back. Just like the good old times in RI/HCJC. Hopefully the results reflects this too… Haha… Wish me luck. :D
